Abstract

Paraffin wax is separated from a mixture of wax and hydrocarbon oil by spraying the mixture at a temperature above its pour-point through a number of nozzles downwardly in a tower into an ascending stream of air having a <PICT:0841562/III/1> <PICT:0841562/III/2> temperature below the melting-point of the mixture whereby solid granular material is formed from which the wax is subsequently separated, the nozzles being so distributed over the cross-section of the tower that the spray cores from adjacent nozzles do not intersect one another. Fig. 1 shows in cross-section one arrangement of nozzles 4 arranged on a conduit 2 within a tower 1. In Fig. 2, the conduit 2 is outside the tower 1 and radial branch pipes of different lengths terminate in nozzles 4 within the tower, if desired, so as to lie in different cross-sectional planes.
