839,225. Sewing machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. March 19. 1958 [April 12, 1957], No. 8768/58. Class 112 Feed-bar mechanisms, revising and regulating feed. A work feeding mechanism in a sewing machine having a free ended work carrying bed comprises a feed-bar extending lengthwise of the bed and slidably engaged with the bed by means comprising a cylindrical guide member carried by one of the parts and bifurcated jaw carried by the other, a member connected to the feed-bar at points spaced lengthwise of the bed to move the bar in a direction lengthwise of the guide member, and mechanism to vibrate the feed-bar transversely of the guide member. The T- shaped feed bar 35 has, at one end of the cross-bar 36, jaws 70 slidably engaged with a guide roller 71 attached to the bed 11. The other, rearward, end of the cross-bar is connected to a crank 58 on a feed advance shaft 56 which is oscillated by a pitman 54 engaging a feed advance cam 52 on the main drive shaft 16. The pitman is provided with a slide block 59 engaging a slot in a feed regulating and reversing lever 62, the angular position of which determines the amplitude of the motion of the feed advance shaft. The feed bar stem 37 carries at its free end a feeddog 39, and spaced depending arms 43 the free ends of which are each connected by vertical links 44 to the free ends of each of the arms 45 carried by a feed lift rock shaft 46. The shaft 46 is oscillated by a pitman 50 from an eccentric 49 on the main shaft 16.
