Abstract

1,120,192. Sewing machines. G. M. PFAFF A.G. 12 Oct., 1965 [31 Oct., 1964], No 43308/65. Heading DIG. A sewing machine comprises a main feeding dog I, an auxiliary dog 2 and a feeding foot 79, the main dog having a stroke greater than the other feeds, and the foot having a stroke greater than the auxiliary dog, the upper fabric layer is thereby fed to the needle at a faster rate than the lower to compensate for slip between the layers at the main feed. The strokes of the dogs are controlled by a cam shaft (10 Fig. 1 not shown) bearing eccentrics (11, 12). Eccentric strap (13) is journalled on a fin (19) and is connected by linkage (21-23) to feed bar rockshaft (15). Fin (19) is also connected by links (20, 25) and fin (24) to adjusting shaft (26). Pins (22, 24) are normally aligned. Rotation of the adjusting shaft by means of the stitch control cam (57) displaces one pin (24) so that the rotating cam shaft oscillates the rockshaft. A rockshaft (16) for dog 2 is similarly oscillated by eccentric strap (14) and an adjusting shaft (34). The adjusting shafts (26, 34) are adjustably connected by a screw (40) pivotally mounted between forks (35, 36) connected to the shafts. Adjustment of the screw causes relative displacement of shaft (34) and thereby varies the stroke of the lower dog 2 relative to dog 1. The foot 79 is reciprocated by an upper rockshaft (74) which is oscillated by the upper arm shaft (69). Rock shaft (74) is connected via linkage (61, 62) to an adjusting screw (41) so that the feeding stroke of the foot can be altered.
