Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0838820/IV (b)/1> (wherein R1 is hydrogen or amino, R2 is methyl, hydroxymethyl or carboxyl, m is zero or 1, n is 2 or 3, and one of the hydroxy groups may also be substituted by another monosaccharide glycoside radical) excluding the compounds claimed in the parent Specification, and the preparation of all the compounds of the above general formula (1) by reacting the appropriate 6-mercapto-purine with the halide of the acetylated glycoside radical (which is also esterified when R2 is a carboxyl radical) in the presence of alcoholic ammonia or liquid ammonia; or (2) by reacting the appropriate 6-halopurine with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of the appropriate thio-sugar; or (3) by reacting the appropriate 6-halopurine with the acetyl-thio derivative of the acetylated glycoside radical (which is also esterified when R2 is a carboxyl radical) in alcoholic-alkali. Reference is also made to the preparation of all the compounds of the above general formula by the method of the parent Specification, i.e. the use of aqueous alkali in place of the alcoholic or liquid ammonia of (1) above with subsequent deacetylation and, when necessary, hydrolysis. Examples describe the preparation of 6-purinylthioglucopyranoside by methods (1), (2) and (3); 6-purinylthioglucopyranuronide by method (1); 6-purinylthiolactoside by method (3); 2-amino-6-purinylthioglucopyranoside by method (1) (reference is also made to the preparation of this compound by the method of the parent Specification and to the separation thereof from 2-glucosylamino - 6 - purinylthioglucopyranoside, formed at the same time, by chromatography); 6-purinylthiogalactopyranoside by method (1); 6-purinylthiorhamnopyranoside by method (1); and 6 - purinylthioglucofuranuronide by method (1).
