Abstract
838,326. Gas turbine plant. MEYER, A. J. Nov. 28, 1957 [Dec. 3, 1956], No. 37104/57. Class 110 (3). [Also in Groups XI, XII and XXVII] In a gas turbine engine, fuel from a nozzle 28 is sprayed into air supplied to a combustion chamber 13 at a pressure equal to, or more than, twice that in the main combustion zone 22, is ignited by a glow plug 29 and issues from a De Laval nozzle 15 at supersonic speed to form shock waves which cause rapid combustion and reduce detonation tendencies in the chamber 22. The nozzle 15 may be made up of three straightsided sections, may have an exit area between 10 and 60% larger than its throat area, and its orifice coefficient may be lowered by omitting its convergent entry or forming this entry in an annular projection into the chamber 13.
