Abstract
885,908. Generating combustion products under pressure. BRISTOL SIDDELEY ENGINES Ltd. Sept. 1, 1958 [Aug. 30, 1957; Dec. 3, 1957], Nos. 27470/57 and 37701/57. Class 51(1). [Also in Group XXVI] Combustion equipment for a ram jet comprises a flame tube 26 forming a pilot combustion zone 27 at its upstream end into which fuel is discharged through a sprayer 28 mixed with air entering through swirl vanes 29 Further fuel is sprayed into the main duct through sprayers 30, the fuel, mixed with air, passing through holes in the flame tube and being maintained in combustion by the pilot combustion zone. An additional intake may be provided in the ram jet to convey air to the pilot combustion zone so that conditions therein are independent of those in the main duct. Specification 762,179 is referred to.
