838,236. Edging leather articles. TOSI, R. Aug. 15, 1957 [Nov. 22, 1956], No.25781/57. Class 42 (1). A process for edging a leather article 1 consists in skiving the edge 2, applying a layer of thermoplastic material 3 obtained from polyvinyl acetate resins on the skived edge and turning over a marginal section 4 of the edge so that it adheres to the layer. The thermoplastic material is applied to the article when hot by an apparatus wherein the material is exuded from a heated container by a screw conveyer on to the skived edge of the article. Another machine reheats the thermoplastic material by pounding with an electricallyheated hammer before passing the article through a channel or groove which turns its edge which then adheres to the heated thermoplastic material. Adhesion may be assisted by applying solvents to the thermoplastic.
