Abstract
838,193. Electromagnetic relays. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. July 18, 1958 [July 25, 1957], No. 23114/58. Class 38 (5). A multiple relay has a plurality of sealed tubes 6 containing magnetic contacts 7, 7<SP>1</SP> surrounded each by a coil 5 and spaced at equal distances from a common core 1 and coil 2 which retains the contacts in the operated position after actuation by their respective coils 5. Attached to the ends of the core 1 are two cylindrical magnetic members 3, 3<SP>1</SP> which surround the ends of the coil 2 so that the gap between them is in the region of overlap of the contacts 7, 7<SP>1</SP>. Insulating heads 8, 8<SP>1</SP> attached to the members 3, 31 receive the ends of the contacts 7, 7<SP>1</SP> in holes 9 and the head 8 is also provided with terminals 11 for the connections to the coils 2, 6 and contacts 7. Instead of being cylindrical the members 3, 3<SP>1</SP> may have a number of links 14 or 141, Fig. 2, which pass along the outside or inside of the tubes with the ends of the contacts 7, 7<SP>1</SP> passing through the holes 13. In Fig. 3 (not shown), three contact units are mounted on each side of a common coil on a rectangular base. The core 1 and coil 2 may be replaced by a permanent magnet.
