Abstract

In a process of drawing wire, rod or tube, the surfaces which come into contact with the die are given a thin coating of an epoxy resin. An additional conventional lubricant (e.g. oil, soap, wax or graphite), or a coating of a second synthetic polymeric material (e.g. nylon or polytetrafluoroethylene), may be applied on top of the epoxy resin. In an example, nickel alloy wire was coated with a solution (in a mixture of organic solvents) containing the epoxy resin "Araldite 970" (the word "Araldite" is a Registered Trade Mark), dried in air and the resin then cured by heating for two minutes at 360 DEG C. The coated wire was then drawn, optionally after applying an additional lubricant, which is castor oil, lanolin, or a mixture of castor oil and soap. Specification 566,434 is referred to.
