Abstract
837,914. Control of A.C. motors. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Aug. 31, 1956 [Sept. 7, 1955], No. 26733/56. Class 38 (3). An induction motor having a control winding 29 and a reference winding 34 is controlled by means of D.C. signals derived from a source 1 which is connected through the secondary winding of a feed-back transformer 4 to the grid of a triode 6. This valve is arranged in an A.C. bridge circuit also comprising resistors 11, 14 and 15, the bridge being supplied from source 18 and having its output terminals connected to transformer winding 9. Thus, the phase and amplitude of the current in winding 9 are dependent upon the impedance of the triode 6, and this current is amplified in a push-pull amplifier and fed to the control winding of the motor. In order to prevent hunting, the motor drives an induction generator 37 with its rotor winding connected to the primary winding of the feed-back transformer 4, this feed-back voltage being effective to oppose the flow of current through the winding 9. The motor may be mechanically coupled to a reversible counter 33 for use in an aeroplane navigation system.
