In a scraper conveyer comprising one or more chains 1 running in a trough made up of articulated sections 3 together with terminal sections 4, the scrapers 2 are slidable relatively to the or each chain in a direction transverse to the general direction of movement of the chain in order that the sections may be laid in a sinuous path without causing substantial deviation of the chain or chains from a straight line. Each scraper 2 is of I-section with a slot or slots 5 in its web in which one or more chain connecting pieces can slide. For a single chain a connecting piece consisting of two slide members 8 connected by a pair of ears 11 secured by bolts 12 is used the ends 9, 10 of adjacent chain portions being linked to the ears. By this arrangement the tension in the chain tends to prevent the scrapers taking up a diagonal position. Friction between the scrapers and the trough walls is minimized by the rounded end portions 7 on the scrapers. The terminal section 4 is wider than the sections 3 so that scrapers in both extremes of lateral adjustment relative to the chain are accommodated. In a modification (not shown) a transversely slotted coupling member is provided on the chain in which a portion of the scraper is slidable transversely of the chain.
