Abstract
834,664. Discharge apparatus. EITELMcCULLOUGH Inc. May 29, 1956 [Dec. 12, 1955], No. 16571/56. Class 39(1). A by-pass condenser connected between metal envelope parts, such as the collector 4 of a klystron and the highfrequency resonator part 19, consists of metallic coatings 40, 41 on opposite sides of a preferably ceramic cylinder 4 which separates and seals flanges 31, 32 connected to 19, 4 respectively. Coatings 40, 41 are connected to flanges 32, 31 respectively. The cylinder rests against raised rings 38 but is actually sealed off by flexible metal parts 36, 37. A cascade klystron is described in which all the resonator flanges are sealed similarly except for the condenser coatings. The coatings may be formed by a metallizing process using an 80/20 mixture of powdered molybdenum and manganese ; or separate metal cylinders may be used. The by-pass condenser serves to remove unwanted high-frequency from the collector in the case where the latter is kept at a separate D.C. potential from the resonators, e.g. for monitoring the accuracy of focusing.
