Abstract

834,654. Drawing. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. Aug. 18, 1958 [Sept. 17, 1957], No. 26514/58. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXV] Apparatus for drawing wire comprises a capstan, a die mounted adjacent the capstan and a wire pulling clamp mounted on the capstan and comprising wire-gripping elements oscillatable as a unit about an axis parallel to that of the capstan. The die 11 is mounted in a cylindrical holder 35 and is longitudinally held in an oval recess 37 by two pins 40 inserted through the base of the holder which is screwed to a plate 13 pivotally mounted on the machine housing 14 and clamped by a screw 45 in one of two positions suitable for the loading and drawing of the wire respectively. The pulling clamp comprises a support 15 for a rotatably mounted cylinder 21 having keyed serrated jaws 23, 24 aligned by a traverse groove 32 and a lug 31 respectively and slidably mounted in a V-shaped opening 22. The jaws are also keyed 26, 28 and 27, 30 respectively to corresponding keyways in a disc 21. The support 15 is connected by a chain 16 to a hook 17 which engages one of several apertures 18 in the capstan 10. In operation, the jaws are closed on to the wire 34 by the force exerted on the chain by the capstan and opened after drawing by a hammer blow on a lug 33 of the jaw 23. The pulling clamp is progressively transferred from capstan to capstan.
