Abstract
834,374. Glass manufacture. HOFBAUER, K. March 24, 1958 [March 1, 1958], No. 9428/58. Class 56. In the manufacture of stemmed glass receptacles, the bowl of the receptacle is blown and then the stem, either alone or together with the base of the receptacle, is pressed to the bowl while the bowl is still warm. The bowl b is blown in a mould together with a hood c and projection c<SP>1</SP> and while still warm, is upturned and inserted in a funnel d having a core surface e exactly fitting the hood c. The funnel d is then inserted into the pressing mould g having a cavity of the same shape as the bowl b joined at h to a cavity of the shape required for the stem i and base k, the funnel being lifted by a manually operated device (not shown) mounted on the mould g until the operator feels the bottom of the glass body b touches the mould. The molten glass is then introduced into the cavity i, k and pressed by a die l having a projection m fitting into a groove of the mould and formed with the required profile n for the bottom of the base k. After cooling, the hood c is severed from the bowl and the rim thereof ground. The bottom k may be formed separately and attached in known manner to the stem i.
