Abstract

833,191. Joining structural tubes. MANNESMAN A. G. Sept. 24, 1958, No. 30518/58. Class 20(2) [Also in Group XXVIII] In a structural element formed of a number of tubular members joined end to end, such as are used for the corner pillars of tubular lattice masts, the ends of each member are deformed so as to seal the tube ends and connecting elements for joining the members together are welded to the ends of each member. As shown in Fig. 1, the ends of the tube lengths 1, 2 have welded thereto interengaging tubular elements secured by a nut 5. In another embodiment, Fig. 2, four straps 8, 9 are welded in crosswise arrangement on the ends of tube lengths 6, 7, the straps abutting at 10 and being bolted to four intermediate elements 11 of angular crosssection. In a further embodiment, Fig. 3, straps 15, 16 welded to the tube ends are secured by a bolt 17 which acts as a hinge the straps being arranged in mirrorimage fashion as shown or in fork-like engagement.
