Class 52(4) In a spring interior mattress having spiral springs 3 mounted between upper and lower wire frames 5, 6, top and bottom padding layers 7, 8, top and bottom ticking 9, 10 and edge strips of ticking 11 secured to the ticking 9, 10 by stitching 19, 22, a border stabilizer consists of a strip 12 of sponge rubber or like material nesting with peripheral springs 3 and cemented to upper and lower tapes 15, 16 secured in place by the stitching 19, 22. Strips 12 may extend right round the mattress or along the long sides only. As shown they have a convex section 26 fitting the springs but the cross-section may be rectangular in which case the wider turns of the springs dig into the sponge rubber.
