Abstract

282,774. Simmons Co., (Assignees of Gail, J. F.). Dec. 24, 1926, [Convention date]. Grant of Patent refused. Mattresses.-A box edging for mattresses comprises two strips of fabric enclosing a layer of padding 15, Fig. 2, and stitched at intervals to form transverse flutes 20. The edging is particularly applicable to mattresses having rows of vertical upholstery springs 21 in fabric pockets. The inner strip 13 is secured to such as assembly by a flexible cord 26, Figs. 5 and 6, hitched round the top coils of the peripheral springs. If the spring assembly is provided with top and bottom fabric sheets, between the springs and the padding, the edges of the inner strip 13 are sewn thereto. After the application of the edging the upper and lower padding layers 35, 36 and their outer covering sheets 37, 38 are applied, and the latter sewn to the outer strip 11 of the edging. The finished mattress is tufted and may be provided with a roll edge 42 in the usual manner. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 133,213.
