Abstract

829,698. Closuring containers in vacuo. PIRRO, R. Sept. 20, 1957 [Sept. 22, 1956], No. 29724/57. Class 125(2). [Also in Group XXIII] Containers such as glass phials 7 are mounted in apertured plates 3, 4 in a holder 1, temporary closures 9 are dropped into the conical necks 8, the vacuum is broken, and the necks are sealed by fusion below the temporary closures which can then be re-used. As shown closures 9 are rubber or silicone balls supported in openings in an upper plate 6 by a lower plate 5. To drop the balls, the plate 5 is moved as by solenoid 11 against springs 10 so that its apertures are aligned with the balls. The balls may be weighted with metal inserts.
