Abstract
In an improvement or modification of the composition suitable for use as a catalyst for the polymerization of ethylene as claimed in the parent Specification, one or more aryls, aralkyls, alkylaryls or mixed alkyl/aryls of aluminium, zinc or magnesium, or aryls, aralkyls or alkylaryls of an alkali metal is/are used in place of or in addition to one or more aluminium trialkyls; but not including the case wherein only one or more zinc or magnesium aryls is/are used in place of the aluminium trialkyl. Specified compounds are those containing phenyl, naphthyl, benzyl, phenylethyl, tolyl or xylyl radicals and those containing methyl or ethyl with phenyl or benzyl radicals. Specification 801,031 also is referred to.ALSO:In an improvement or modification of the process of the parent Specification, one or more aryls, aralkyls, alkylaryls or mixed alkyl/aryls of aluminium, zinc or magnesium, or aryls, aralkyls or alkylaryls of an alkali metal is/are used in place of or in addition to one or more aluminium trialkyls; but not including the case wherein only one or more zinc or magnesium aryls is/are used in place of the aluminium trialkyl. Specified compounds are those containing phenyl, naphthyl, benzyl, phenylethyl, tolyl or xylyl radicals and those containing methyl or ethyl with phenyl or benzyl radicals. The products may be stretched in the cold to give ribbons or wires. The processes, purification, products and applications may otherwise be as described in the parent Specification.
