829,013. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. DOWTY FUEL SYSTEMS Ltd. May 14, 1957 [May 17, 1956], No. 15440/56. Class 135. A governor for controlling the speed of a prime mover, e.g. an industrial gas turbine, by controlling the by-passing of fuel from a conduit 20 leading from a pump 1, preferably of gear type, to the burners comprises a bobweight 9 pivoted at 7 and integral with an arm 11 which carries a valve closure member 15 controlling a fixed servo vent 19. The arm 11 is loaded by an adjustable spring 13 and carries the closure member 15 in a bearing 16 to permit relative rotation of the arm and closure member when the latter is in engagement with its seat. The servo vent controls the pressure of air, fed from the compressor in the case of a gas turbine through a filter 45 and restriction 46, applied to a chamber 39 containing a flexible diaphragm 41 which operates the fuel by-pass valve 28 in such manner that when the speed exceeds a certain value the vent 19 is opened to allow the valve 28 to be moved by a spring 29 towards the position shown, in which it passes fuel from a passage 49 to a conduit 26 leading to the inlet of the pump 1. Fuel can be bypassed only after sufficient pressure has been developed in the conduit 20 to open a spring- loaded valve 47. Liquid fuel instead of air may be used as the servo fluid and more than one bob-weight may be employed.
