Abstract
828,132. Toothed gearing. STOECKICHT, W. G. Feb. 10, 1958 [March 7, 1957], No. 4286/58. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group XXXIII In order to provide, within a light-weight housing 1, rigid bearing supports for the bevel gearing driving the main and tail rotor shafts 12, 27 of a helicopter, the shaft 15 of a bevel gear 13 driving the shaft 27 lies within the coaxial shaft 5 of a bevel gear 3 engaging the driving pinion 2. At least two bearings 18, 19 are provided between the coaxial shafts 5, 15 while each shaft has only one bearing (6, 16, respectively) in the housing 1. In a modification the bearing 18 is replaced by a pair of bearings. The bevel gear 3 is coupled to the sun 8 of an epicyclic train whose annulus 9 is fixed to the housing 1, the planet carrier 10 driving the main rotor shaft 12 through a freewheel coupling 11. The shaft 12 is connected to the shaft 15 by a shaft 20 having gear couplings at each end.
