Abstract
827,810. Splitting-apparatus. MASCHINENFABRIK TURNER A.G. March 6, 1958 [March 22, 1957], No. 7255/58. Class 31 (1). A method of peeling a continuous strip of uniform thickness from a block of resilient material comprises joining the ends of the block to form an endless band, moving this band cyclically past a peeling knife and moving the position of the band at the end of each cycle to compensate for the thickness of the layer removed in the preceding cycle. As shown, a block a has its ends cemented together at a<SP>1</SP> to form an endless band which is passed between a gauging roller b and a supporting roller d to a band knife i, the material being supported by a conveyer belt running over a table e, the parts d, e, f forming a unitary structure which can be adjusted vertically by an electric motor driving suitable mechanism. The motor is operable through a time delay relay by means of a rockable feeler roller l when this, on moving over the ramp portion, Fig. 4, of the band, closes a microswitch m. The amount by which the structure d, e, f is moved each time is set by an electric counter having a pre-setting mechanism which controls the number of turns made by the adjusting motor. The band knife may be replaced by an oscillating knife.
