Abstract

A platinum catalyst, usually supported on an inorganic oxide gel such as alumina/silica, activated charcoal, zinc aluminate, spinel, kieselguhr, pumice, silica or alumina, is treated with an oxygen-containing gas and then with a hydrogen-containing gas at a pressure lower than the pressure employed in the catalytic conversion. The catalyst may be purged with a fluid prior to the treatment with the oxygen-containing gas and prior to the treatment with the hydrogen-containing gas: the purging fluid being hydrogen or a normally-gaseous hydrocarbon. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 744,459.
