A cattle handling pen has a neck-embracing yoke positioned behind a front exit door. The pen comprises side frames 10 interconnected by top bars 13 and a front exit door 17. Yoke halves 22 are pivoted to the side frames 10. An animal entering the rear of the pen is prevented from backing out by a cross-bar which selectively engages a pair of hooks 37 provided in each side frame 10. The yoke halves 22 are swung rearwardly and locked to embrace the animal's neck by rotating a crank-shaft 34 to move a crank 33 so that it extends rearwardly just below its dead centre position. The crank 33 is attached to a bearing member 27 which slides on a fixed shaft 28. A cross-head 26 is fixed to the bearing member 27 and is connected to links 25 attached to the yoke halves 22. When the front door 17 is opened and the crankshaft 34 is rotated to raise the crank 33 above its rear dead-centre position to unlock the yoke halves 22, the animal can walk forwardly out of the pen, pushing the yoke halves 22 apart.
