Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0826300/IV (b)/1> in which R1 is a residue of an imide of a dicarboxylic acid attached to the carbon chain by the imido nitrogen atom; R2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl radical containing from 1 to 5 carbon atoms which may be substituted by a thiocarboxylic ester or by an alkylmercapto group, or an aralkyl radical which may be substituted by an hydroxy group; R3 and R4 may be the same or different, and are hydrogen atoms or alkyl radicals containing from 1 to 3 carbon atoms; n is an integer from 1 to 3; and R5 is an alkyl radical, an aralkyl radical which may be substituted by a halogen atom, or an aryl radical, and the preparation thereof by (a) reacting a compound of the general formula <FORM:0826300/IV (b)/2> or a salt thereof, with a compound of the formula Y-R5, Y being an acid radical; (b) reacting a compound of the general formula <FORM:0826300/IV (b)/3> or a functional derivative thereof with a compound of the formula HS-R5 or with a salt of such a compound; (c) reacting a compound of the general formula <FORM:0826300/IV (b)/4> Hal being a halogen atom, with a compound of the formula R1-H or with a metal derivative of such a compound; or (d) reacting a compound of the general formula <FORM:0826300/IV (b)/5> with a dicarboxylic acid or a functional derivative thereof. b -Bromo thiopivalic acid ethyl ester is prepared from b -bromopivalic acid chloride and ethyl mercaptan.
