Abstract
825,817. Spectacles. NATIONALE S. A. March 25, 1958 [March 30, 1957], No. 9519/58. Class 97(1) A spectacle side arm comprises a metallic part secured in a synthetic resin skin and having a hinged element secured thereto by deforming said element or said part. In one form, a metal rod 2 is press fitted within a metallic sleeve 1 and then heated before being forced through a tube of synthetic resin 3 so that the rod 2 acts as a reinforcement. Thereafter the sleeve 1 is deformed at one end so as to form a force fit in a non-circular recess of a hinge element 5, in the interior of which is a slidable member 9 carrying a roller 10, this member being pressed outwardly by an internal spring 7. The hinge element 5 is pivoted at 13 to another hinge element 11 riveted at 12 to the spectacle front, this hinge element 11 having a cam surface against which the roller 10 is spring- pressed, and serving to hold the spectacle side in its " open or its " closed positions. In another form, Fig. 6, metallic part 14 is introduced into a synthetic resin tube 3, and has grooves therein which aid in the retention of the part in the tube 3. The projecting end 15 of the part 14 is deformed so that it is gripped within a recess of hinge element 5. A third form is described, in which a reinforcing metallic element has folded over edges at one end, as at 20, Fig. 8, so as to grip the hinge element 5.
