Abstract

825,739. Reservoir pens. PAPER MATE MANUFACTURING CO. Dec. 17, 1957 [Dec. 18, 1956], No. 39164/57. Addition to 821,257. Class 146(3) In an ink supply unit according to the parent Specification the means for connecting the two cartridges consists of deformations integral with the open end portion of one of the cartridges and adapted to receive and resiliently to hold the writing tip of the other cartridge while maintaining the open end of the first cartridge in communication with the atmosphere. Each of two ball-point writing cartridges 21, 22 has an open end 24 at which the metallic or plastic wall of the cartridge has four inwardly extending crimped deformations 50 which grip the writing tip 23 of the other cartridge when it is inserted therein, passages 56 being left to admit air to the surface of the ink column of the cartridge having its tip exposed. An additional air passage 60 may be provided in each cartridge. As shown, the unit is retractably mounted in a two-part barrel and each cartridge has an enlargement 32 to serve as an abutment for a return spring 34. The barrel may be taken apart and the positions of the cartridges reversed. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown) the deformations are spaced a short distance from the open ends of the cartridges.
