Abstract
825,671. Slack preventing in winch cables. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG NURNBERG A.G. Jan. 7, 1957 [Jan. 7, 1956], No. 593/57. Classes 78 (4) and 78 (5). Crab crane 1 (e.g. for ingot stripping) carries winch drum 2 (Fig. 1), the cable C of which passes round pulleys 3 which carry the load at 4, the end of the cable carrying weight 6 to keep the cable tight whenever pulleys 3 hit the ground. Spring 7 serves to cushion the upward movement of weight 6 and one-way hydraulic brake 8 serves to brake this upward movement. A cam 16 operates switch 17 to cut out the winch motor if the drum continues to pay out too much slack. In Fig. 2, the weight takes the form of a casing 18 suspended at tne end of cable C, the up and down movement of the casing being guided by pinion 20 running along vertical fixed rack 19, and the braking of the upward movement being performed by motor 23 carried on the casing, said motor being connected by gearing 22 and by pawl and ratchet one-way clutch 21.
