Abstract
825,102. Folding tables. H. B. PRODUCTS (WOODWORK) Ltd. April 22, 1958 [April 23, 1957], No. 12871/57. Class 52(3) A portable table foldable into a box formed by the tray-like parts 1a, 1b of the top joined by a hinge 2 has two pairs of legs, each leg structure comprising a bar 5 pivoted to the top by pins 6 and carrying legs 7 8 each of which is divided into two parts 7a, 7b, 8a, 8b connected by a hinge 10 and abutted by inclined faces 9, resilient tension ligatures of sheathed coiled wire 13, 14 being secured to the table top and to transverse struts 11, 12 to retain the table erect but permit folding when legs are moved past a dead-centre position. Tension members 15 are secured to members 13, 14 by hooks. The table may be used as a bed table by supporting it on the parts 7a, 8a with parts 7b, 8b folded up. In a modification, Fig. 4, the inner parts 20 of the legs have arcuate recesses 23 to receive dowels 24 carried on the outer leg parts 21. Tension springs 30 are loosely threaded through a handle forming sheath 32 and in the extended position the upper ends of the legs abut against stop dowels 34 projecting inwards from the side flanges of the table top.
