Abstract

824,010. Heater tube gas burners. HAUCK MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 8, 1957, No. 4488/57. Class 75(1) A heater tube gas burner with a primary tip 42 and at its rear end to project from tube 40 of a length greater than its diameter and with the greater portion of its length projecting into the heater tube 14 to terminate at its front end in a burner the heater tube to connect to a source of gas as through a gas chamber 90 and flange connection 98, has an air chamber 44 surrounding the rear end portion of the primary tube 40 and connected to a source of air as through the flange connection 80 and supplying secondary air, as through an adjustable peripheral duct 48, to flow in the space between the inner primary tube 40 and the outer heater tube 14 and also supplying primary air, when required, to the primary tube, as through adjustable ports 46 for mixture with the gas from the gas chamber 90. To vary the gas-air ratio in the primary tube 40 a sleeve 60 surrounding tube 40 is axially adjustable over the ports 46 by means of a cross rod 62 in a positioning rod 64 threadedly received in a rotatable bushing 66 held against longitudinal movement by a screw 68 in the wall of the gas chamber 90. By this means the ports 46 and the duct 48 are adjusted oppositely. The forward edge of the sleeve 60 is so shaped as to act as a valve for the duct 48. The deflector plate 54 externally adjustable by a handle 84 causes the secondary air to whirl in the space between the tubes 14 and 40 to control the length of the flame. A flame retention nozzle 50 has a length approximating its diameter and is concentrically spaced within the heater tube 14 by means of three spacers 70 and is disposed on the tube 40 by means of webs 72 so as to reach the inner face of the masonry or fire brick wall 16 so that the heater tube should not be exposed on the inside to flame and heat at a location where the heat could not be dissipated from the outside. The webs 72 are cut away as shown at 58 adjacent the tip 42 so as not to impede the flow of primary air through the annular passage 58 between nozzle tip 42 and the annular back plate 56 mounting the tip 42 within the flame retention nozzle 50. A sparking device 112 is connected through a conductor 104 to terminal 38. An observation port 114 is provided.
