Abstract

823,565. Waveguides. COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE. Jan. 29, 1957 [Feb. 6, 1956], No. 3115/57. Class 40 (8). A waveguide section in the form of a truncated cone, used to couple two circular-section waveguides, is provided with means for suppressing waves other than those propagated in the H01 mode. For this purpose, the section may be made from a number of metallic rings 14, Fig. 1, in the form of truncated cones separated from each other by rings 15 of insulating material. The rings are kept in place by means of a sheath 16 made of a thermoplastic material or of lead. Alternatively the sheath may be made of a winding of paper or metallic tape. The rings 14, 15 may be replaced by fine wire (Fig. 2, not shown) wound in contiguous turns on a conical mandrel which is then withdrawn. Specification 720,862, [Group XVI], is referred to.
