[Also in Group XXXI] A walk-type tractor having driving mechanism for propelling the tractor and for actuating a reciprocatory tool has a one-way power transmission device which permits the tractor to be pushed forwards without transmitting movement to the driving mechanism and a one-way power transmission device which permits the tractor to be pushed backwards without transmitting movement from the driving mechanism to a tool or implement. The tractor comprises an engine 3, body 1, wheels 2, a guiding handle and a tool arm 5 carrying a multiple cutter 6 having a reciprocatory cutter-bar 7 actuated by a rod 8 coupled to a crank-pin 10 at one end and at the other end to a rocker arm 9 attached to arm 9a actuating the bar 7. A speed reducing gear drives axles 15 on which are mounted wheels 2, ratchets connect the wheels 2 to axles 15 to transmit rotation to the wheels in the forward direction only, thus allowing the tractor to be pushed forward without rotating the driving mechanism. The crank-pin 10 is carried by a member 16, Figs. 4, 5, pivoted at 17 to plate 18 on shaft 11 driven through a clutch, operated by handle 12, and a speed-reducing gear by belt drive 14 from engine 3, during forward, i.e. anticlockwise, rotation of shaft 11 the pin 10 is thrown against a stop 20, Fig. 4, to transmit reciprocatory movement to connecting rod 8, whilst when shaft 11 is rotated backwards, i.e. clockwise, due to movement of the tractor backwards, the pin 10 is thrown against stop 19 where it is nearly coaxial with shaft 11 so no movement is transmitted to rod 8.
