Abstract
821,386. Heat exchangers. AIR PREHEATER CORPORATION. Aug. 6, 1957 [Sept. 28, 1956], No. 24756/57. Class 64(1) In a heat exchanger in which in a chamber 10 a descending mass of pellets is heated by direct contact with an upwardly flowing stream of hot gas and in which pellet retaining means extend across the chamber. the restraining means comprises tubular members 24, e.g. of circular or streamlined cross-section, through which a coolant fluid is circulated. The coolant may be air which is thereby heated to ultimate use. In the form shown the tubular members 24 extend in serially connected groups between headers 22. An inlet 26 admits hot gas to the lower end of the chamber whence it flows upwardly and in contact with the descending pellets to an outlet 28. A pellet distributing screen 38 is provided in the upper part of the chamber.
