Abstract

821,324. Cable joints. GLOVER & CO. Ltd., W. T. Feb. 22, 1957 [Feb. 23, 1956], No. 5698/56. Class 38 (1). In a joint between two lengths of liquid or gas-filled metal-sheathed cable, the insulated joint between the conductors is enclosed in a rigid sleeve 7 supported at one end, Fig. 3, by a brass sleeve 8 forming, with two lead rings 9, a container for a cast plumb 10 which unites and seals the sleeve 8 to the metal sheath of the cable. The joint between the sleeves 7, 8 is sealed by one or more resilient rings 12 located in a groove in either of the sleeves and the two sleeves are mechanically secured together by a nut 13 screwing on to the sleeve 7 and having a flange 14 which presses a shoulder on sleeve 8 formed by a nut 15 against the end of sleeve 7. The other end of sleeve 7 is flanged at 18, Fig. 4, and is bolted to an end plate 17 with the interposition of a further resilient sealing ring 12, said end plate being brazed to the exterior of another sleeve 8 which, similarly to the sleeve 8 in Fig. 3 forms a container for a cast plumb 10.
