[Also in Group XXV] A multi-conductor cable is made by extruding a thermoplastic material such as polythene to surround and individually enclose each of plurality of conductors 2 to form a multi-conductor unit 1, twisting the unit and stranding a plurality of such twisted units together to form the cable. Each of the units may be twisted before and/or during the stranding process, different units being made with different twist lengths to minimize cross - talk. Each unit may comprise two conductors 2 and have a figure-of-eight cross-section, or more than two conductors with an appropriate crosssection and individual conductors may be identified by a rib on the outside of the extruded insulation. The stranded cable 3 may be completed by a polythene layer 4, an aluminium foil tape screen 5 and a polythene or polyvinyl chloride sheath 6. An apparatus comprising bobbins rotatable at individually different rates and carried within a rotatable framework for stranding the cable is described.
