820,505. Gas burners. LOWE, J. A. Aug. 2, 1957 [Aug. 13, 1956], No. 24666/56. Class 75(1) A gas burner for metallurgical and other furnaces comprises a tube 1 closed at the end by a cap 2 having radially disposed orifices 3 discharging a mixture of gas and primary air into a cup-shaped recess 6 in a refractory block 5, secondary air being supplied at the point of admission of the jets of mixture. Gas enters by the pipe 10 into a space 8 fed with preheated air by the nozzle 9, the gas/air mixture passing down the tube 1. Air also passes from the space 8 down the tube 4 surrounding the tube 1, a swirling motion being imparted to this by vanes 11.
