Abstract
820,101. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. ALLAM, P. S. (Merit Engineering Inc.). Sept. 30, 1957, No. 30529/57. Class 135. A relief valve assembly has a spring closed main valve member 11, slidable in a sleeve 19 secured in a valve body by a screwed cap 39, which is normally seated on an end 33 of the sleeve to obturate fluid flow from a relief port 17 through radial ports 24 in the sleeve, through an annular passage 35 around the valve stem, past the valve seating 33 and then through radial ports 44 in the plug to a return port 18. A spring-loaded pilot valve member 12 is coaxially slidable within the valve member and normally closes a port 30 in the bottom of the sleeve to prevent fluid flow from the inlet via grooves 27<SP>1</SP>, 32 in the outer side of the sleeve to a cylinder 29<SP>1</SP> formed below a piston-like end of the main valve member. When the valve is closed inlet pressure acting on annular faces 36, 37 of the main valve member balances this member, but when the inlet pressure exceeds a predetermined amount it causes the pilot valve to lift and admit pressure fluid to the cylinder 29<SP>1</SP> to open the main valve. The cylinder 29<SP>1</SP> exhausts via the passage formed between the pilot valve portion 50 and a sleeve 34 mounted in the main valve member and grooves 49 formed along the guided portion of the pilot valve member to join the other flow path through ports 44 to the return port 18.
