One or more water-cooled tuyeres 2 for a cupola furnace 1 has a nozzle 3, the crosssectional area of which may be varied by sliding therein concentric sleeves 9 and 10 disposed in a housing 8. The sleeves are manually operated by rods 11 extending through glands 12 in the end wall of said housing, which also has a peep-hole 13.
