Class 34(1) A steam-heated roller for rayon spinning machines is provided with an axially displaceable cylinder 12 spaced from the roller by a spiral 13 secured to the roller surface. One end of the cylinder is secured in an end-plate 3 supported by the roller mounting 3a while the other conical end is located in a seating carried by a mounting 4 axially slidable in the roller. Steam is admitted to the roller through a pipe 6 and after passage through the path defined by this spiral 13 exhausts through ports 15 to a condenser 16.
