Abstract

The invention comprises 3-N-carbobenzoxyglycl-, 3 - l vulinyl-, 3 - (N - benzoyl - DL - phenylalanyl-), 3 - p - acetamidobenzoyl- 3 - diphenyl - acetylthiopropylene sulphides and benzene - 1 : 4 - bis - (3 - carbonylthiopropylene sulphide) and the preparation of compounds of the general formula <FORM:0819688/IV (b)/1> wherein R represents a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl, aryl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or heterocyclic group, by treating 3-mercaptopropylene sulphide with a mixed anhydride to a non-oxidizing hydroxy acid (i.e. an acid which contains at least one hydroxy group and does not have any oxidative effect under the conditions used in the process of the inventions and an organic acid of the general formula R.COOH. A preferred non-oxidizing hydroxy acid is carbonic acid and a mixed anhydride R.C.O.O.CO.OR1 where R1 is an alkyl group. In an example, ethyl chlorocarbonate is reacted with N-carbobenzoxyglycine and triethylamine in dry toluene at 0 DEG C., followed by reaction with 3-mercaptopropylene sulphide in the presence of pyridine to yield 3-N-carbobenzoxyglycylthiopropylene sulphide. Similarly are prepared 3-p-nitrobenzoyl-, 3-l vulinyl-, 3-(N - benzoyl - DL - phenylalanyl-), 3 - hippuryl-, 3 - p - acetamidobenzoyl -, 3 - diphenylacetyl -, 3 - (b - methoxycarbonylpropionyl -), 3 - furoyl-, 3-trichloroacetylthiopropylene sulphides and benzene - 1 : 4 - bis - (3 - carbonylthiopropylene sulphide). The Provisional Specification discloses that R in general formula of the products may additionally be an aryloxy group.
