Abstract
819,625. Electrically tripped switches. ARROW ELECTRIC SWITCHES Ltd. Dec. 23, 1957 [Jan. 10, 1957], No. 39833/57. Class 38(5). A latching device particularly for an electromagnetic contactor such as that described in Specification 753,271 acts on a laterally-movable operating rod 32 connected to the movable contacts (not shown). The rod 32 is coupled to the armature 24 and is guided by slots 17s, 18a in the support framework 17, 18. The latch 70 is pivoted on a rod 64 lying in the plane of movement of rod 32 and carried in a support 60. The latch has two spaced parallel arms 72 connected by a web portion. Each arm 72 has a projection 72n which engages the rod 32 so as to retain it in the energized position (Fig. 3). The latch is biased by a spring 75 between the web portion and the support 60. When the contactor is energized the rod 32 depresses and passes over the projections 72n, and the springs 75 then pulls the latch so that the projections retain the rod against the force of springs (not shown) or gravity. When a release coil 53 is energized a plunger 59 is attracted, against the bias of a spring 58, and the end 82 of a trip member 80, attached to the plunger, strikes the web of the latch so that it releases the rod 32. Specification 753,271 is referred to.
