Abstract

819,607. Fuel injectors. SAURER Ltd., A. May 28, 1957 [July 19, 1956], No. 16942/57. Class 7(3) In an injection nozzle having an outwardly opening valve 9 loaded by a spring 10 abutting against a spring retainer 11, a disc valve 13 loaded by a subsidiary spring 14 seats on an annular seat 23 on the spring retainer and has a small clearance S between its outer edge and the bore of a sleeve 15 in the nozzle and a larger clearance 19 between its inner edge and the part of the spring retainer 11 passing . therethrough, the flow of the fuel during delivery causing the valve 13 to lift and pass through the space 19 in addition to the initial flow through the space S. The spring retainer comprises a nut 11 abutting the spring 10 and a lock nut 16 carrying the seat 23 and provided with guide fins 17 which are a sliding fit in the bore of sleeve 15 and guide the upper end of the valve stem. At the beginning of the delivery stroke fuel can only pass through the small clearance S which produces a small fuel injection and a pressure build-up which suddenly forces the valve 13 off its seat 23 allowing comparatively free flow of fuel through the larger passage 19. The surface of the nut 11 co-operating with the valve 13 may be tapered inwardly so that the passage 19 increases as the valve moves further away from its seat.
