Abstract

891,037. Fuel injectors. BESSIERE, P. E. May 1, 1959 [May 2, 1958], No. 14997/59. Class 7(3). [Also in Group XXIX] A fuel injector is provided with valve faces 12<SP>2</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, on its stem co-operating with valve seats 13<SP>2</SP>, 13<SP>1</SP>, to close the clearance between the valve stem and its bore 10 when the valve is at rest and when it is fully lifted, and thereby prevent escape of fuel past the valve stem. In Fig. 1 the end 8b of the valve, when at rest, obstructs the injection orifice 4a but leaves a small gap open through which pre-injection occurs before the valve lifts. A non-return valve 46 in the supply passage 2 maintains residual pressure in the pipe leading from the injection pump. In modifications the pin 8b extends through the orifice 4a and is provided with a deflector or the pin 8b is replaced by a ball co-operating with a spherically shaped inner end of the orifice 4a. In Fig. 5 the lower end of the valve seats on the orifice 4a and is provided with a preinjection orifice 8h.
