Abstract
818,320. Rotary furnaces. SMIDTH & CO. A.S., F. L. Dec. 23, 1957, No. 39914/57. Class 51 (2). In a rotary furnace for the burning of cement raw materials, lime or ores in which part of the interior is divided into compartments 4 by four longitudinal partitions 3 formed with sector-shaped end flanges 11, at each end, each partition is truncated towards the kiln shell 1 so that it presents an edge 8, Fig. 6, perpendicular to the furnace axis and another edge 9 inclined towards the axis at an acute angle, each flange being bent at 14 to mate with the partition edges so formed. The flanges are associated with a central hexagonal plate 19, and the line 14 slopes, being related to the direction of rotation of the furnace so that at the inlet end of the compartments the trailing end of the line is nearer to the axis than the leading end. The partitions have inclined conveying ribs 18 sloping in opposite directions on both faces, the end ribs 17 being somewhat shorter than the others. During operation, material reaching the inlet end of the compartments is cut through by the outer parts 13 of the flanges and lifted into the compartments 4 by the partitions adjoining the flanges. On further rotation, the leading corner 16 of the oblique end 13 of the flange 11, imparts a forward movement to material filling towards the centre of the furnace, preventing spillage backwards. At the outlet end of the compartments the shape of the flanges assists discharge of the material by depositing it on the kiln shell in advance of the plane of rotation of the leading corners of the outlet flanges.
