Abstract
816,753. Rotary engines or pumps. MONTEIL, J. A. Oct. 7, 1955 [Oct. 7, 1954], No. 28670/55. Class 110 (2). A rotary engine or pump of the rotary abutment type has an outer stationary casing 3 having four rotary abutments 2 with recesses 2<SP>1</SP> geared to co-operate with four vanes 6 on a rotor 1. The rotor has peripheral flanges which form the side walls of working spaces G and with packing inserts 17, thrust outwards by centrifugal force, form fluid-tight seals with the casing 3, which having no side walls is open on each side. The vanes have packing inserts 7 which are thrust outwards by centrifugal force. An inlet port 24 and a discharge port 25 are formed one on each side of each abutment 2 and are controlled by rotary valves 4, 5. Alternatively, or in conjunction, an inlet port 10<SP>1</SP> and an outlet port 11<SP>1</SP> may be formed one on each side of each vane 6, these ports communicating with passages 10, 11 in the rotor and passages 91, 9<SP>11</SP> in the rotor shaft 9 which communicate intermittently with stationary valve members 12, 13. When used as an internal-combustion engine a gaseous charge is introduced through the inlet ports under pressure and then fired by sparking-plugs 8 mounted in the rotor just behind the vanes 6.
