[Also in Group XXIX] An hydraulic speed - responsive governor adapted to control the supply of liquid fuel to a jet-propelled engine, gas turbine, or other engine, or to adjust the guide vanes of a turbocompressor in response to speed variations of an associated prime mover comprises a chamber b containing a hollow rotary body c within which is mounted a centrifugally operated valve n adapted to control the flow of liquid from an inlet e to an outlet r and so regulate the control or governing pressure in the chamber b. According to the invention, the hollow rotary body is provided with a flexible diaphragm by which pressure variations in the chamber b are transmitted to the valve n and with a baffle s which tends to minimize pressure pulsations in the liquid acting on the diaphragm j. The chamber b is formed in a housing a and communicates with the inlet e through a restricted orifice f and with a further chamber h through a passage g. The diaphragm which is mounted on an annular member i divides the rotary body c into two compartments, one of which communicates directly with the chamber b through an aperture k and indirectly therewith through the seat m of the valve n. The valve n is carried by a lever o one end of which is formed as a centrifugal mass q and the other end of which is pivotally supported by a flexible blade p. The lever is also attached to the diaphragm j. The baffle s has a restricted orifice leading to a narrow space between the diaphragm j and the baffle. The rotary body c is driven from the engine through a spindle d and motive fuel is supplied to the inlet e by an engine-driven fuel or other pump. The chamber h is formed with a diaphragm u loaded by a tension spring v and acting on a spring-loaded lever x which carries a shutter z movable between opposed nozzles 2, one of which is connected to the inlet by a passage 3 and the other to a liquidoperated servo-mechanism (not shown) by a passage 4. The shutter z and nozzles 2 may be replaced by a valve.
