Abstract

815,409. Liquid fuel atomizers. BOSCH, G. m. b. H., R. April 2, 1957 [April 11, 1956], No. 10724/57. Class 75(1) In an atomizing unit for liquids, especially liquid fuels, comprising an intermittently feeding pump and a hydraulically operated atomizing nozzle connected thereto through a pressure equalizing chamber, a non-return valve constructed to allow a degree of leakage when closed is interposed between the chamber and the nozzle. The valve comprises a body 7, Fig. 2, into which is screwed a coupling member 8 which clamps a valve member 10 in position in the body, and a plate 12 pressed on to the seat of the valve member 10 by a spring 13. The face of the plate 12 has a series of grooves therein so as to allow a degree of leakage when the valve is closed. The nozzle consists of a member 17, Fig. 1, having a central bore in which a needle 18 moves, the bore having an enlarged end 28 adjacent the outlet into which the liquid is fed by a bore 27 from the valve 7. The outflow is controlled by a pin 26 on the end of a needle 18, movement of the latter being controlled by a spring 20 which may be adjusted by a screw 23. The screw 23 may be connected by linkage with the fuel feed control member 3 of the pump so that as the feed is decreased the pressure necessary to open the atomizing nozzle is also reduced.
