Abstract
814,801. Frameworks for buildings; mullions. GARDINER, SONS & CO. Ltd. Aug. 16, 1955 [May 20, 1954], No. 14851/54. Classes 20(3) and 20(4) A pair of framework members each of which comprises a plurality of superimposed blocks 1 secured together by tensioned wires 5 extending through holes 2 from end to end of the assembled blocks and anchored against plates 13 by grips 11 and wedges 12 are connected together in spaced relationship by a sleeve 10 fitting over the grips 11. An adjustable tie 16 connects the framework members to a floor 15 and the holes 2 and the gap between the framework members are filled respectively with grout and a fire resisting composition as shown. Mortar joints 4 are provided between the superimposed blocks and the blocks may be of cement, ceramics, brick, stone, glass or plastic and wholly or partly faced with metal, plastic, timber, glass or terazzo. The framework members may be mullions for curtain walling or for roofing.
