Abstract
814,327. Reciprocating pumps. YARROW & CO. Ltd., and ANDRE RUBBER CO. Ltd. May 30, 1957 [June 15, 1956], No. 18678/56. Class 102(1). [Also in Groups XVII and XXXIII] An end fitting for a pipe la, Fig. 2, adapted to be connected with a suction pump comprises a hollow body 12 of flexible material having a neck 17 in which the suction pipe is clamped, the body being so shaped as to terminate in a lower open end of greater cross sectional area than the pipe 1a, said lower end being spaced by suitable means 18 from the bottom of a tank. A reinforcing rod 15 of easily bendable metal may be imbedded in a lower thickened rim 14 so that the body can be bent to form a lower open end having a triangular shape A, Fig. 4, or the rectangular or elliptical shape B. The means 18 may be (a) integral with the body 12, (b) separate spacer pads secured with the body 12 to studs 19 on the tank floor, or (c) spacer pads secured to the floor 11a of a tank and tapped to receive securing bolts. A clamping ring, surrounding the body, may be held in position by the bolts. Any flexing of the tank floor 11a is stated to result in a contraction or expansion of the flexible body 12 without disturbing the position of the lower open end of the body relative to the floor of the tank.
