Abstract
813,775. Straightening. VISRAM, Q. A. A. A. Feb. 14, 1958 [Feb. 15, 1957], No. 5317/57. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIII] The blade 1 of a band-saw is kept " tensioned," i.e. expansion of the edges of the blade and contraction of its centre portion are prevented, by means of at least one roller having its axis parallel to the axes of the saw pulleys 2, 3 and associated with magnetic means for constraining the blade into uniform contact across its width with the roller. As shown, two spaced rollers 12, 13 are provided on a member 9 carried on the machine framework and a permanent or electromagnet 16 between the two rollers constrains the blade upwards to contact the rollers, the radius of curvature induced being somewhat less than the radius of curvature round the pulleys but insufficient to cause the blade to touch the magnet. A single roller, magnetized so that it attracts the blade to its surface, may be used. The Provisional Specification describes also a roller having a face of convex form and pairs of pulleys of magnetic material magnetized by a permanent magnet or an electromagnet so that the pair act respectively as north and south poles or the ends of each roller act as north and south poles.
